Updates on various of my hydroponic grown plants

Last time I posted pictures of my plants they were still quite small, so here are current pictures of my small hydroponic operation.

Outdoor Tomatoes

In March, I placed 2 tomato seedlings in a 12 liter box and added some aeration in the form of an aquarium pump to it. In May, I had to put the plants outdoors since they were getting too big for the window sill. After a couple of colder days, the plants almost died, but both of them recovered.

The plants are currently ~2 meter tall and produce a ton of foliage and flowers.

The plants

Ever since being placed outside, the aeration is done via a solar-powered pump, which stores enough power to pump through the night. The roots look typical for DWC setup and are perfectly healthy.

The roots

While I did not yet harvest any tomatoes, there are plenty of fruits on the plants, and it shouldn’t be long before I can finally harvest some of them.

Indoor Chilies

The chilies have outgrown their old containers (described here), they were starting to empty their containers in 2–3 days, which caused me to lose a couple of them due to dry containers. For the remaining plants, I bought 5 Liter buckets, which should require less frequent refills.

Some of the chilies suffered from root rot. I treated this by cutting out the dead roots and by trimming the roots in the center in order to increase the surface area of the root ball.
